Definitely a different view of demolition. Clarion Hotel comes tumbling down….slowly! But at least it’s coming down. That’s what residents in the South Toledo Corridor are saying. The hotel sat vacant for 5 years. The Indian Company that owned the property literally walked away from it, bailing on the financial responsibility to clean it up. So the property was turned over to the State, and bought by the city of Toledo. All told, Toledo will pay over 400-thousand dollars to tear it down. “Money we intend to recoup” according to Toledo Mayor Mike Collins. “I predict the city will not own the property 6 to 8 months.” According to Matt Zapara, head of economic development for the city of Toledo, there have been talks with a number of companies interested in the property, but they’re not committing to anything until they see the property cleared and ready to go. The demolition is expected to take 12 weeks. Crews will be removing asbestos from the building, before moving on the tear down phase
